   FOCUS ON SCOTLAND
LIFT MODERNISATION IN ONE OF SCOTLAND’S FINANCIAL CENTRES
Today, Edinburgh’s St Andrews Square is one of Scotland’s major financial centres, dating back to 1772 when it became one of the most desirable and fashionable residential areas in the city. Like many city centres, St Andrews Square has evolved and has become
a multi-sector destination and the location of the Edinburgh Grand Hotel along with premium commercial offices, shops, restaurants and department store, Harvey Nichols.
Like many established city centre premium buildings, 9-10 St Andrew Square’s lifts installed in the 1960’s were due for further modernisation. This premium building 7-storey building is one of Regus' prestigious Serviced Office Scottish locations. The duplex through car 10-persons traction lifts undergoing modernisation by Saltire Lifts, Lanarkshire, were originally installed by Otis. Lester Controls
have helped with the specification
and manufacturer of the ALMEGA II controllers and the accompanying electrical upgrades. This has included us supplying full shaft wiring, CEDES absolute positioning systems, all new landing signalisation with TFT screens and new car operating panels.
CUNNINGHAM HOUSE – NORTH AYRSHIRE COUNCIL’S HEADQUARTERS

Located in the southwest of Scotland, North Ayrshire has a population
of around 138,000, residing in approximately 62,500 households
ranging from authority owned, shared and private ownership across its towns, villages and island communities.
The 6-storey Cunningham House council offices, located in Irvine are served
by three, 10-person traction lifts. Lift maintenance provider Scottish based, Classic Lifts, approached Lester Controls to design and manufacturer an ALMEGA II traction controller for one of the three lifts to integrate with the existing traction drive and the various ancillaries that it would be managing.
A3 protection was one of the features
of ALMEGA II that the Council required, along with the controller, we also suppled a CEDES absolute positioning system and shaft wiring.
