MODERNISATION OF TWO, SEVEN-STOP, 23-PERSON PASSENGER/BED LIFTS
In this instance, the project relates to the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion in Edinburgh, which provides specialist eye treatment
to patients in Edinburgh and the Lothians. Managed by NHS Lothian, the 6-storey plus lower ground floor was due for modernising and upgrading to improve ride quality and reliability.
Glasgow based, Scotec Lifts won the modernisation contract for the hospital’s duplex pair of 23-person passenger and bed lifts.
Working closely with Scotec, our Glasgow based team helped with the specification of the two ALMEGA II traction lift controllers to ensure they easily integrated with the new machinery. As part of the passenger safety improvements to the lifts, we also supplied CEDES absolute positioning systems and the wiring required
for the existing landing indicators and door operating systems.

When any lift modernisation occurs in an occupied building, it is essential to avoid inconvenience to residents and that agreed completion times are adhered
to. These critical completion times have been even more important during periods
of lockdown and in many cases, project work has had to be accelerated to shorten the time a lift is out of service.
One of the lift modernisations that we have assisted with in the residential
sector where lift availability was a significant issue, was at a sheltered housing apartment block built in 1992 and owned by North Ayrshire Council.
The modernisation was undertaken
by Classic Lifts, Scotland and related
to a simplex hydraulic passenger
lift. To assist Classic Lifts with a very tight programme, Lester Controls manufactured a new ALMEGA II hydraulic controller. Lester Controls manufactured and delivered the controller in two weeks, along a range of ancillaries, including a car and landing operating panels fitted with HDI32 screens.
